A new coronavirus can be destroyed in just 25 seconds, a new study – led by scientists from the Boston University’s National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories together with Signify – noted. The study was published in Scientific Reports.
Specialists treated inoculated material with different doses of ultraviolet radiation to find out how much radiation you need to destroy the virus.
Thus, at a dose of 5 mJ/cm2 SARS-CoV-2 spread was reduced by 99% for six seconds. When raising to 22 mJ/cm2 the virus disappeared completely in 25 seconds.
“A very low exposure to far-UVC light killed well over 99.9% of the exposed virus,” lead researcher Dr. David Brenner told Reuters.
